Keith Coventry unveils photographs at Lowry Hotel

15th July - 4th August 2015

The Lowry Hotel, 50 Dearmans Place, Chapel Wharf, Manchester M3 5LH

Iconic photographs taken by legendary Manchester photographer Kevin Cummins have been handpicked to hang in The Lowry Hotel’s huge lobby.

Guests will be greeted at the five-star hotel by four six-foot by four-foot photographic prints, plus another 20 photographs taken by Cummins throughout his 40 year career will be permanently hung throughout the guest floors as part of a major refurb.

Portraits of the crowd at The Stone Roses’ Spike Island gig, James at the ruined Central Station (later GMex), Johnny Marr, and the old Hacienda doors will hang in the lobby. They were all chosen from Kevin’s book, Manchester: Looking For The Light Through The Pouring Rain, released by Faber & Faber in 2009.

On July 14, the hotel will also open an exhibition of 50 of Kevin’s photographs – including shots of Joy Division, The Smiths, The Sex Pistols, Courtney Love, David Bowie, Liam Gallagher, Sinead O’Connor, Buzzcocks and the Manic Street Preachers. Disclosure, curated by Lucy Bell, will be open to the public on the Bar & Restaurant level until August 4.

The exhibition, which is free and formally open from July 15, runs until August 4.
