They were made during Keith’s residency in Shanghai, the trip being part of winning the John Moore’s Prize for painting in 2010. Whilst there, and seeing the fast rise of McDonald’s restaurants in China, Keith hones in on the ubiquity of this global corporate company. Tiny fragments of the crumpled remnants of McDonalds wrappers are cropped and positioned and then made into a collage in such a way that they become iconic constructivist compositions. A layer of plastic and photographed on the camera he had with him further erodes the sharpness of the original stark yellow, red and black colours.
